The London Borough of Barnet is twinned with Chaville. Our association exists to promote friendship and exchanges between Barnet and Chaville. We do this by organising cultural, sporting and work exchanges for adults and young people.
Cultural and sporting exchanges have included:
Art - Painters from both towns have shown their works and exchanged hands-on experience.
Music - Performers, local ensembles and orchestras have visited and played.
Places of interest - groups are shown around each other's historic and cultural locations.
Books - Barnet and Chaville libraries swap books. Chaville library hold a monthly English Book Group.
Sport - In the past exchanges have included football, tennis, keep-fit, table tennis, and petanque. Others are set up according to members' interests. The Chaville petanque team narrowly beat our team in June 2019 during our wonderful visit to Chaville.
Social - We hold events and fund-raisers, sometimes with members of both towns present, such as quizzes, Anglo-French wine and cheese evenings, fêtes de roi and local walks in Chaville and Barnet.
Economic and civic events - We are keen to contribute to economic and business links between Barnet and Chaville and to encourage tourism between the two towns. Every year we hold a planning meeting with our opposite numbers, Amitiés Internationales et Jumelages de Chaville, working closely with both town halls who are extremely supportive.
Youth - We are especially keen to help young people to stay with each other on exchanges and work experience to learn each other's language and ways. We work with schools, colleges and families to achieve these purposes.
Come and join us. Many lasting friendships have been made on both sides of the Channel this way
